Odd values of the partition function

Let p(n) denote the number of partitions of an integer n. Recently the author has shown that in any arithmetic progression r (mod t), there exist infinitely many N for which p(N) is even, and there are infinitely many M for which p(M) is odd, provided there is at least one such M. Here we construct finite sets of integers Mi for which p(Mi) is odd for an odd number of i. Whereas Euler’s recurre...

On a Total Function Which Overtakes All Total Recursive Functions. *

We discuss here a function that is part of the folklore around the P =?N P problem. This function g * is defined over all time–polynomial Turing machines; we trivially change it into a g which is defined over all Turing machines, and show that g overtakes all total recursive functions. We then show that g is dominated by a generalized Busy Beaver function.

Line integral methods which preserve all invariants of conservative problems

Recently, the class of Hamiltonian Boundary Value Methods (HBVMs) has been introduced with the aim of preserving the energy associated with polynomial Hamiltonian systems (and, more in general, with all suitably regular Hamiltonian systems). However, many interesting problems admit other invariants besides the Hamiltonian function. It would be therefore useful to have methods able to preserve a...

On a Multiplicative Partition Function

Let D(s) = ∑∞ m=1 amm −s be the Dirichlet series generated by the infinite product ∏∞ k=2(1− k−s). The value of am for squarefree integers m with n prime factors depends only on the number n, and we let f(n) denote this value. We prove an asymptotic estimate for f(n) which allows us to solve several problems raised in a recent paper by M. V. Subbarao and A. Verma.

The Shapley Axiomatization for Values in Partition Function Games

One of the long-debated issues in coalitional game theory is how to extend the Shapley value to games with externalities (partition-function games). When externalities are present, not only can a player’s marginal contribution—a central notion to the Shapley value—be defined in a variety of ways, but it is also not obvious which axiomatization should be used. Consequently, a number of authors e...
